Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC)
For the second year, both 7th and 8th graders will take part of the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC). These high quality, computer-based K–12 assessments in Mathematics and English Language Arts/Literacy give teachers, schools, students, and parents better information whether students are on track in their learning and for success after high school, and tools to help teachers customize learning to meet student needs. This year, PARCC testing has been consolidated into one window. Dates of RDMS PARCC Testing are below.
The PARCC assessments are aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CSSS) and were created to measure students' ability to apply their knowledge of concepts rather than memorizing facts. The PARCC assessments require students to solve problems using mathematical reasoning and to be able to model mathematical principles. In English Language Arts (ELA), students will be required to closely read multiple passages and to write essay responses in literary analysis, research tasks, and narrative tasks. The assessments will also provide teachers information on student progress to inform instruction and provide targeted student support.
New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge (NJASK)
The NJASK assessment measures students' cumulative understanding of Science. The NJASK continues to be a paper-based assessment.
