INDIVIDUALS with DISABILITIES EDUCATION ACT (IDEA)
A federal law ensuring special education services to children with disabilities. Under IDEA part C students are entitled to received special education and related services from the ages of 3 - 21 years.
IDEA was originally passed in 1975 to ensure that students with disabilities have the opportunity to receive a free, appropriate public education, just like other nondisabled students. IDEA requires that special education and related services be made available to every eligible student with a disability.
