English/Language Arts (LA) carries on the aims of middle school education as described by the principles and goals of Turning Points, the Carnegie Foundation's foremost research document on middle schooling. A balance of core curriculum literacy skills (i.e., listening, speaking, reading, writing, and viewing) will be the goal. More intense preparation will commence in the spring of the school year to help students successfully meet the challenge of the Proficiency Assessment administered by the State of New Jersey. Although test simulation and test readiness skills will be practiced (especially familiarization with the format of the test and broad-based strategies for test-taking), all skills will be developed through meaningful activities within the curriculum, rather than in isolated, drill activities.
Laptops: Laptops are to be brought each day to class fully charged.
