    Concert Choir

     

    Concert Choir is open to all students who enjoy singing. The Concert Choir performs a broad range of repertoire at semi-annual concerts. Skills of vocal production, sight singing, and sensitive interpretation are nurtured through various special activities in rehearsals. Concert Choir can be taken during the normal school day, or after school during period 9. 

    The High School Band and Choral Winter Concert will be Thursday, December 19th at 7pm in the auditorium. Attendance and participation in this concert is mandatory for all ensemble members. The Spring concert will be on Thursday, May 28th, at 7pm. Attendance is mandatory.  

    Concert Attire

    • Black Dress Pants
    • Black Dress Shirt
    • Black Dress Shoes

     No high heels, sneakers, jeans, t-shirts, or perfume/cologne.  Students who also participate in Select Choir will not wear this attire but will wear their dresses/tuxedos for the entire concert.

     

    Period 9 (PM) Concert Choir Expectations:  

    • Students are expected to be at rehearsal on each B and D day from 2:40 (ready to sing) until 3:30.  
    • Students with an athletic obligation will be dismissed at 3:25 unless in the case of a game when students will be dismissed earlier.  
    • Students should have a pencil each day and pick up their music folder in the cabinet prior to the start of rehearsal which will begin promptly at 2:40.
    • Students who will be arriving to rehearsal late due to academic help with another teacher must contact Mrs. Zintel via email and arrive to rehearsal with a pass. Please note that PM Concert Choir (Chorus) is an actual class and every possible effort should be made to schedule academic help at times other than on B and D days. 
    • Students who will be missing class due to an away athletic event must provide Mrs. Ioele (Attendance) with the appropriate printed game schedule prior to the affected date so that she can indicate the reason for your absence in attendance.
    • Students missing class due to any other reason can only be excused through Mrs. Ioele with a parent note or email.  If you are present for the last class of the day then you are expected to be present for period 9 Concert Choir.
    • A maximum of 3 excused absences per marking period.  Additional absences must be made up or will be marked with a check minus minus in Genesis.

    Daily expectations:

    • Display a positive and enthusiastic attitude during rehearsals.
    • Exhibit proper singing alignment (posture) throughout each rehearsal.
    • Demonstrate good effort in proper breathing and support of the tone.
    • Demonstrate the proper mouth opening and formation of vowels for an optimal tone quality and blend.
    • Maintain a proper focus throughout rehearsals.
    • Follow the music of the other voice parts when you are not singing.  You would be amazed at how much you can learn about reading the vocal music score just by doing this!!!
    • Listen while other voice parts are being rehearsed so that you understand how your voice part fits into the musical whole.
    • Listen carefully to how the ensemble sounds and make necessary adjustments to the voice.
    • Be a good role model for other students and add to the overall quality of the group.
    • Attendance at all after school and in school rehearsals and performances.
