Students learn grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and other skills within the contexts of meaningful reading, speaking, writing, listening, and viewing experiences. Drawing from an extensive list of traditional and young adult titles in classroom, school, and community libraries, teachers engage students in strategies that promote the independent reading of assigned and self-selected works (novels, short story and poetry, plays, and works of non-fiction).
