River Edge Police Department will be speaking to 8th grade students about their digital citizenship and social media etiquette in today’s online world. Students will be separated into groups by gender (females on May 18th and males on May 19th) during their Physical Education classes and will discuss various aspects of digital responsibility and the many ways that social media affects students both online and offline. Students will learn about the potential immediate, short term, and longer term consequences of their behaviors, as well as legal, academic, and social implications of their digital footprint. Additionally, Sargent Cheevers will stress the importance of empathy and compassion for others, with an emphasis on personal accountability as well as the future benefits of being someone of substance and character.
